You can never recreate the life-changing experience of first encountering wild elephants on foot or spending your days following habituated monkeys. But you can help provide that experience to somebody else. This is the idea that Sepela was built on in 2014 when Dr. Brandi Wren founded it and expanded the field course she had been teaching since 2007 into a field studies program with multiple courses.
Sepela is committed to providing students with outstanding learning experiences that not
only broaden their practical skills but their perception of the world around them as well. Sepela values conservation, experiential learning, cultural exchange, and the cooperative sharing of knowledge among diverse communities. We welcome you to join us in this endeavor!
“I still remember the taste of rusks dipped in rooibos tea, the first time I saw an elephant in the wild, the thrill of being on foot tracking a leopard, and the clarity of the southern cross in the night sky. Not only did I feel at home in South Africa and this course, I was able to learn bush skills, tracking methods, plant and animal identification, scientific research methods and primate behavioral patterns. These only scratch the surface of the amazing experiences this course has to offer!” – Claire H., Primates of South Africa, 2009
